The cabin
The Schaeffer carries the name of Schaeffer Holiday Cabins, as the camp was known in its early days. It is the flagship of the camp: a log cabin with a steep standing-seam roof and a massive stacked-stone chimney, set right above the St. Vrain. Inside, a rustic-modern living area opens around a full-height stone fireplace, with a kitchen built around a professional range and granite counters.
Two bedrooms each have a queen (the lower-level bed is a Murphy bed), plus a flexible loft with a full mattress and two fold-out twins. The main bedroom opens onto a private 10 × 20 ft Trex deck with a custom iron railing and river views. The lower-level bedroom has heated floors, its own ¾ bath with a walk-in shower, and an exterior door to a concrete walkway with stone steps down to the river. Outside: a stone terrace with river views, a huge wood-burning stone fireplace, and an outdoor kitchen with a fridge, a granite counter and sink, and a professional propane grill.
Good to know: the lower-level staircase is narrow and steep.
