Four historic cabins on over 300 feet of private St. Vrain frontage, at 7,350 feet in the pines 15 to 20 minutes above Lyons and surrounded by Roosevelt National Forest: a rustic riverside basecamp for family gatherings, small retreats, and mountain adventure.
The Schaeffer, The Ranch, the terrace and the great lawn sit on an upper shelf about thirty feet above the river, and The Riffle sits right beside the water. Reach the sandy beaches and fire pits by a staircase with railings, by the trails, or by driving down the shared driveway. A hot tub joins the terrace in 2027.
A fourth historic cabin, The Miller, with three bedrooms and a bath, joins the camp in 2027.
Booked as a whole, the camp is yours alone: no shared spaces, no other guests, no owner on site.

Ways to stay

02 · The cabins
Three are ready to book now, each remodeled for comfort while keeping its 1941 character. A fourth, The Miller, joins the camp in 2027. Book the whole camp together. Each name has a story: read where they come from.
The flagship log cabin above the river: a full-height stone fireplace, a professional range, a 10 × 20 ft river-view deck, an outdoor kitchen, and a lower-level bedroom with heated floors.
Long and low among tall pines, with a bright three-sided sunroom for cards and group time, heated tile floors, a covered front porch, and a deck with a barbecue.
The most contemporary of the three and closest to the water, with a vaulted wood ceiling, a wood-burning stove, and a wall of glass onto a big river-facing deck.
A fourth historic cabin joining the camp in 2027: dark chocolate-brown log siding with white trim, a steel roof, and a peaked covered porch on a stone base. Three bedrooms and a bath.

03 · The river
The Middle St. Vrain runs the length of the property. Officially it's St. Vrain Creek, but nobody up here calls it that. Shallow and fast over granite, loud enough to hear from every cabin, clear enough to see the bottom. Wade in from your own sandy beaches, cast a fly line, or take the path down to the hammock and fire pit at the water's edge. It's yours for the stay: no public access, no crowds.
The cold plunge
Skip the ice-bath tub. By the newest little beach, the Middle St. Vrain settles into a calm pool about four feet deep, fed by snowmelt from the peaks above. Wade in after a hike or a ride, take a minute in the cold, then warm up by the fire.
Most cold plungers aim for water between 50 and 59°F, and at 7,350 feet the river sits right in that range for much of the summer and fall.

Plunge season, once runoff settles in early July.
Crisp and bracing, with low, clear water.
Snowmelt runoff: high, fast water. Enjoy it from the bank.
Ice along the edges. For experienced plungers only.
Plunge smart: never plunge alone, keep it to a minute or two, stay out when the river runs high, keep children out of the plunge pool, and have warm layers waiting. If you have a heart condition or are pregnant, check with your doctor first. Temperatures are approximate; check current flows on the USGS St. Vrain gauge.

05 · The setting
Across the river is the end of a private ranch: no other cabins, no road, no lights. The property faces south and gets sun all day. You're on the quiet Wild Basin side of Rocky Mountain National Park (waterfalls and trails without the Bear Lake crowds), with Lyons 15 to 20 minutes down the canyon.
06 · Guests
“This place is beyond magical. Wander down the path to your private riverside hammock, picnic table, and fire pit — surrounded by chairs made from old skis and snowboards. We saw a moose, we listened to the river, we took it all in. What a find.”
“We were in town for a wedding and couldn't have picked a better place. The cabin had everything we needed, in a beautiful, peaceful setting.”
“A rustic spot to escape into the Colorado wilderness — perfect for my husband and me and our pup — with a short drive into Lyons for restaurants and live music.”
